2027: Yoruba Koya declares support for Tinubu’s reelection, unveils grassroots mobilisation across SW
The Yoruba kọ'ya Leadership and Training Foundation, under the leadership of Otunba Ayodeji Osibogun, has declared its full support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, citing confidence in his commitment to repositioning the Nigerian economy and its desire to see the administration’s ongoing reforms consolidated.
The Foundation said it would build on its existing grassroots structures, strengthen community engagement, and mobilise support for the President’s re-election across the six South-West states ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The organisation also highlighted its presence beyond the South-West, including in Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta states, where Yoruba communities have longstanding historical roots and established cultural connections. It said this wider geographical reach reflects its commitment to engaging Yoruba communities across these areas.
Explaining its decision to support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, the Foundation expressed confidence in the administration’s economic reform agenda and the President’s determination to establish a sustainable foundation for national economic recovery.
“We believe in this administration’s willingness and, particularly, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s resolve to reposition the Nigerian economy. Over the last three years, we have observed initiatives and significant policy strides by the President and his team aimed at laying a solid foundation for economic recovery and providing lasting solutions to the country’s economic challenges.
“It is on the strength of these efforts, and our belief in the importance of continuity, that we have resolved to give our full support to President Tinubu’s re-election. We believe a second term would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing reforms, advance the administration’s economic agenda, and build on the work already undertaken.”
As part of its mobilisation strategy, the Foundation plans to strengthen its membership, reinvigorate its established grassroots units, and deepen engagement with communities across Yorubaland. Proposed activities include outreach to business owners, artisans, vocational groups, and market women, alongside fundraising initiatives, door-to-door engagement, and voter education ahead of the elections.
The Foundation also announced plans to convene a comprehensive press conference to present its grassroots mobilisation strategy, organisational framework, and proposed activities across the six South-West states. The event will provide further details of its implementation priorities and approach to community engagement ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The date, venue, and time will be communicated in due course.
The Foundation further expressed its condolences over the passing of one of its patrons, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the elder statesman and Afenifere leader. It extended its sympathies to his family, associates, and the wider Yoruba community, describing his passing as a significant loss to the Yoruba nation.
