In my previous write-ups, I have often criticised Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly because he was more interested in impeachment proceedings.
However, yesterday while watching and reading the screening of commissioner nominees, I was impressed how he identified the failure of one of the nominees to show evidence of payment of taxes since the year 2018.
He delivered the killer-punch during his cross-examination when he asked her whether her income received during her tenure as Commissioner of the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission did not qualify as income and therefore taxable?
The line of questioning revealed a man who "knows his onions" when it comes to legislative scrutiny. Full report is available online at: https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/rivers-assembly-defends-rejection-of-fubaras-four-nominees/%3futm_source=auto-read-also&utm_medium=web&
Well done, Mr. Speaker.
Permit me to appeal that such commissioner nominees be given a second chance to submit their tax documents, please.
Yours faithfully,
