As the festive season of Christmas gives way to a New Year, Sir Otunba-Giwa Ayodeji Osibogun calls on the people of Ijebuland to embrace reflection, faith, and gratitude, while safeguarding the legacy that defines our proud heritage.
“May God bless our land, our families, and all who carry the Ijebu name with pride,” Sir Otunba-Giwa Osibogun said in his seasonal message.
He emphasized the sanctity of the Awujale throne, declaring that it is not for sale. “The throne is a sacred trust rooted in history, culture, and integrity. It must never be pursued through bribery, manipulation, or undue influence, as such actions diminish the dignity of the stool,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of transparent and honorable leadership, he urged that succession be faithful to tradition and guided by legitimacy rather than intrigue or wealth. “Money cannot buy the Awujale’s crown. Authority flows from lineage, character, and cultural fitness, not from riches or secret deals. Any attempt to subvert this truth insults our heritage,” he said.
Sir Otunba-Giwa Osibogun called upon the people of Ijebuland, men and women of conscience and courage to speak out and uphold the truth. “Silence now would be costly,” he warned.
Concluding his message, he urged unity, wisdom, and courage as the year turns: “May wisdom guide us, courage strengthen us, and unity preserve our heritage. Merry Christmas and a New Year of peace, honour, and rightful leadership for Ijebuland.”
Signed:
Sir Otunba-Giwa Ayodeji Osibogun
