Nigeria's First Trained Cosmetologist & Manufacturer of Popular Clarissa Hair Pomade, Chief (Mrs) Wright-Osibogun Passes On At 94

The death of the first trained cosmetologist and manufacturer of popular 'CLARISSA' hair pomade has occured in Ibadan.

According to one of her  children and notable Prince in  Ijebuland, Otunba Giwa Ayodeji Osibogun, who broke the sad news to the media.  He stated
At exactly 12 noon 15th July 2022, Chief Mrs Olayinka Abiodun Osibogun-Wright, manufacturer of popular hair pomade 'Clarissa' in the 50s, 60s and 70s in Nigeria passed on in her sleep at her residence, 18, Are avenue, New Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.  She is survived by children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In her lifetime, Chief (Mrs) Olayinka Abiodun Osibogun-Wright was a staunch member of the Chapel of Resurrection, a decorated Anglican and member of the choir for over fifty (50) years.

She was a well known Ibadan business woman who plied her trade at the old 'Gbagi' alongside Chief (Mrs) Awolowo, Chief (Mrs) Akikugbe and others.

She was a descendant of the great Wright family and kinoshi family of Egbaland.  Her ancestors were the first set of freed slaves returned to Nigeria with the changed name 'Thomas Benjamin Wright' (reverened in the CMS Anglican communion).

She is a descendant of the ruling family, Fusengbuwa/ Tuwase royal family in Ijebuland.  She is also a descendant of the Mosene Elewala family of Ikorodu where she is related to Chief(Mrs) Folake Solanke (the matriarch of the Nigerian Bar Association).

Chief (Mrs) Olayinka Abiodun Osibogun-Wright was a seasoned philanthropist who cared for the poor, gave to the poor and lived her life for the poor.

In Are avenue, she was popularly known as a one-woman vigilante because she ensured that security prevailed in that area for as long as she lived.

She will be fondly remembered by the entire Ibadan community, Ikorodu community, Lagos community, Ijebu community and the Egba community(where she hailed from the Ijeun quarters in Abeokuta).

Burial and funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Signed
Otunba Giwa Ayodeji Osibogun
For the family.

Death is a common denominator. No matter how beautiful, righteous, hardworking, loving, philanthropic, or aged, everyone has to bow down to it one day.
Mama finally returned to her maker. Beautiful, elegant, stately, enterprising, no nonsense, with a sonorous voice, she made her mark in Are Avenue, indeed, the whole of Bodija Ibadan, Chapel of Ressurection U.I, and the rest of Ibadan.
She will be sorely missed. I commiserate with my darling aburos, Otunba Deji and Yeye Otunba Debola Osibogun, my amiable neighbour and role model, auntie Chief Folake Solanke SAN and the entire family. E de ile na gbo, e de to o loruko Jesu. Yeye Otunba Prof Mrs Adenike Olu-Osoba

My last encounter with mana was when I saw her at the Mokola market with her househelp, I reversed and pleaded that I give her a ride to her house, which she consented to. Naturally, she was curious to know who I am, so I introduced myself, " my name is Kayode Omotade", and mama said, " Ah, Omo baba Omotade, look at his head like his father's"! We both had a good laugh out of her sense of humour. God bless your gentle heart and may you rest in peace, amen

(RIP) Arin wo oo, a courageous ,gracious , virtuous woman. Family was everything to mama and she had so much love for all. To understand mummy is to know that she always meant well. Mummy Ibadan's , vision and steadfastness is second to none . These attributes had made mummy , a icon of her generation , as being a hard worker, a business oriented and enterprising mogul. She was also a beautiful, socially stunning woman amongst her pairs and all. Mama's life was fulfilled , productive and prolific. She always had the love of her family at the core of existence. To understand mummy is to know a God fearing woman who was fearless at confronting what is unjust. I knew mama as loving, despite all odds. Mama was not just a mother a in-law to me, she was a family friend , my mum and her sister adored her and mama was supportive at their passing and she also played a great role at my wedding. I thank God for mummy's full and fruitful years, surrounded and supported by children, grandchildren and many loved ones. Sleep eternal in the bosom of your maker. I could go on and on ... But Mama "You have ran the race and now, it is finished", Adieu mama....

Mummy Ibadan as we used to call her was a person of excellent. My second mother and this is because she used to call me her daughter. The first time I met her, she asked me to sit on her laps and was just praising ( Oriki) and she said welcome home Yetunde. I had the best time of my life living with her and I’ll never ever forget that. She used to take me with her to church and sang in the choir together. Because I was so slim, mummy always prepare special meals for me and made sure that I lack nothing.
Rest easy mum in the bosom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen ♥️.
My sincere condolences to the entire Oshibogun family .

An Angel and Epitome of Beauty has gone to join the Saint triumphant. May Mama's gentle and beautiful soul rest in peace. I grew up to see my mother always treating her hair with stretching comb and with lots of clarisa hair cream to the bargain. No doubt Mama made her mark as top cosmetologist and entrepreneur. Adieu mum.

Time is life, life is time.
To God be the glory for a life well spent. *Chief Olayinka Atinuke Abiodun Wright-Osibogun* was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her ways of life were selfless and kind, she was well respected by everyone that knew her, and rightly so.
She instilled morals and discipline in me, those of which I still apply to this day. 3 things that stood out about her for me was that:
1. She was a caring child to her parents, she took care of them and her grandparents up until they left us.

2. She was a wonderful mother to her children. I recall a time that she went to the States to visit her children and when she saw that they were struggling she brought all of them and the grandchildren back to Nigeria so that they could live a more comfortable life. If that's not a mother's love, I don't know what is.

3. She was a beautiful and elegant, both in and out. The way she carried herself is part of the the reason why she was so highly respected.

One key piece of wisdom she has left me with is to live an honest life and to carry myself as an upright member of society; to be kind to people that way life will be kind to me.
She will be greatly missed.
