On the 4th of June, 2020, the governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun announced on his twitter page, the launch of the community policing project. According to the governor, "Today, I formally launch the Community Policing Project in Ogun State towards bringing the @PoliceNG and policing closer to our people, to curb crimes and vices from the grassroots."
Some critics have opposed the idea ab-initio but the governor's aim is to create a connect between security agencies and the various communities in the state.
The governor commended the police IG for the initiative which reflects the readiness of the Nigeria police to find a permanent solution to complement the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC).
The governor added that "These strides have contributed to the inclusion of our dear state amongst the pilot states for the implementation of this Community Policing Project".
The governor reiterated his administration's unrelenting effort in continued support of all security agencies through providing both logistical and material support for their progress and ease of operations.
