My Dear President: "Recuse yourself from petroleum ministry oversight" Dr. Sina Fagbenro-Byron writes Buhari... Nigerians respond

When Ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo expressed his opinions about the current administration, it gained traction and the government had no option but listen.  Several political stalwarts knocked the elder statesman for intruding on the affairs of state in a rather rude manner while others gave him thumbs up for becoming a watchdog and lighthouse to warn of a looming danger.

Joining the league of letter writers, Dr. Sina Fagbenro-Byron, a former presidential candidate for KOWA Party, sends an in-depth missive to president Buhari.

Dr. Sina Fagbenro-Byron (Fmr. Presidential candidate, KOWA Party)

Titled, 'Letter to my president', Dr. Byron expressed his candid opinions on various issues affecting the nation and how he feels the president should better tackle them towards achieving national progress.

The letter reads:

LETTER TO MY PRESIDENT.

Your Excellency,

President Mohammadu Buhari , GCFR

Nigeria

Dear Sir

Greetings from my side of Nigeria.

I commend you for your resilience and thank God for life and His love for this country and its diverse people.

I am compelled to write this letter as contribution to your efforts to discharge your responsibilities as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria particularly in these trying times. My letter contains two sections the first being is a series of observed risks that your government is facing, and the second   a mix of solutions and mitigating factors that you are free to deploy to your success.

As follows:

RISK FACTORS

1. Components and sub components of your government are working at cross purposes and openly contradiction each other.

2. There is no evidence of your oversight of the Petrolueum sector as Minister considering the current levels of public accountability and full disclosure in the management of Sector.

3. Since 2015, there has been a multiplication of armed conflicts in Nigeria in spite of your security interventions.

4. Either as a cause or as a consequence of no.3 above, there is a failure of national security intelligence due to one , more or all of the following reasons: misinformation,  disinformation, information withholding, late response, inaction and internal sabotage)

5. We have constitution that incentivises population growth, but does not sanction human development neglect.

MITIGATION

1. Enforce a strict liability Policy Coherence Framework for all governments appointees and the Public Service.

2. Recuse yourself from your Ministerial Oversight of the Petroleum Ministry and enable Minister of Finance to take up this responsibility. Subject all Ministers to strict compliance with Auditor General's reports and requirements.

3. Institute a Truth and Reconciliation committee for the country to consider alternative dispute mechanisms for, land, ethnic and religious conflicts.

4. Review the national security leadership and the personnel in charge of the current national security information management and integration system.

5. Support for the justiciability of section 2 of Constitution regarding the Directive Principles of State Policy, to the extent of holding all federal state and local government elected chief executive officers personally liable for its breach within their sphere of authority.

Please accept the assurances of my highest regards

Yours sincerely,

Citizen Sina Fagbenro-Byron

The letter was shared on Dr. Byron's Facebook account and a cross section of Nigerians have reacted to the missive in different manner.
